Hartlepool Giving Tree

When the pandemic hit in 2020, the Giving Tree needed an online platform. That’s where we came in.

When Mark Rycraft from Middleton Grange got in touch with us about the Hartlepool Giving Tree, we knew instantly that we wanted to do whatever we could to help. The Giving Tree gave us a fantastic opportunity to be creative with the design and use our website development skills to help make a difference to the lives of thousands of children at Christmas.

We created the first ever visual of the Hartlepool Giving Tree to establish a brand identity.

We designed a brand with a fun, festive colour palette and complimentary font combination. We added plenty of Christmas theming with presents under the tree, hanging baubles and snowflakes falling. We used the brand identity across the website, social media and printed assets to foster confidence in the campaign and encourage people to donate.

We developed a user-friendly online solution to make present management simple.

The design clearly displays the recipient and the gift they are wishing for with the option to take the tag from the tree. The user is guided through the steps required to donate a gift, including delivery details and suggested retailers to support Middleton Grange Shopping Centre.

The system behind the website made managing the presents simple, including a live counter on the site to show how many presents had been bought throughout the campaign. It may seem simple from the outside but there is more magic required to bring the reality of the online Giving Tree to life than you might think!

We turned to social media to spread the word and to our surprise the campaign quickly went viral.

Hartlepool Giving Tree reached people around the world, featured on regional news, online news channels and local radio. Along with Middleton Grange and their partners, we were overwhelmed at the response and grateful for the public’s generosity.

We volunteered our services to manage the social media and create content for the channels. We shared photos of deliveries, key information about the campaign and updates on the amount of gifts donated throughout December. We could barely keep up with the amount of generous donations and found ourselves addicted to checking the live counter on the website!

The social media assets have been updated and used each year, developing a clear, recognisable identity for the Hartlepool Giving Tree.

The Hartlepool Giving Tree has relaunched every year since then to keep bringing Christmas magic to young people.

For the 2021 campaign, we created a short, promotional video for the Hartlepool Giving Tree in collaboration with Hartlepool United to encourage donations both online and in the shopping centre once more.
